07:32 AM ET 03.04 | San Francisco 49ers free agent safety Dashon Goldson is likely to hit the open market on March 12 and he will be looking to cash in a huge payday. Per the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Goldson is expected to be seeking an average base salary of $8 million per year. An $8 million annual figure would put Goldson in the second tier of safety contracts along with Eric Weddle of the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders' Michael Huff. One of the teams that could be willing to pay Goldson is the Green Bay Packers. Their situation at safety is up in the air and Goldson could provide a solid player in the defensive backfield, though he can be a liability in the passing game. His 310 tackles and 14 interceptions over the past four seasons would be welcomed in Green Bay.

They'd be stupid to let him go.

$8M for a free agent? The only other time Ted Thompson came close to that was his first year on the job when he signed Charles Woodson to a 7-year $52M deal the year after the Packers went 4-12.

The Packers are trying to save money to re-sign Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews, not splurge on free agents.

Ted will never do it. I wish he would, but he won't.

It sure beats Revis @ 16m a year, at least that's what he thinks he's worth!
