'Very ugly' situation looms with Revis

08:03 AM ET 03.04 | Living on an island takes on new meaning these days for Darrelle Revis. Woody Johnson has let it be known in NFL circles for the last two months that he believes there is no way he can sign [Revis] and is convinced his best option is to trade him. Of course, Johnson can change his mind. But as the Revis saga continues to play out, the momentum is moving in the direction of a trade. "I think it's going to get ugly, very ugly," one NFL source said. "You can't trade your best player. You do everything to keep him. It's going to get ugly with the player and the agent. I don't know how you get around it. It's very difficult." The source said he believes Revis will make a full recovery from his ACL injury.

The annual Revis hold-out is "ugly." So is the weather in Buffalo in the winter.

YOU DO TRADE YOUR BEST PLAYER, IF; If that player has one year left on his contract and has made all indications that he will not be back in 2014.
No one is going to give the Jets squat for Revis. So what Woody, Revis and his agent need to do is stop being unreasonable. The Jets are going nowhere for a few years. So really having Revis on the team is not going to improve their team, give him up for a 2nd or 3rd round choice, maybe the Jets instead of going 3-13 they go 5-11.
Revis needs to know that no one is going to pay an old CB rehabbing from a major knee injury $15 per year, only stupid desperate clubs do that.
3 teams could use Revis, Miami, New England, Cincinnati, San Francisco. Cincinnati has the most cap space then Miami, N.E. and the 49ers. Going to SF would be the best thing for Revis, his controversial war of words with Richard Sherman of Seattle would throw more fuel on this heated rivalry, that extra publicity seems like it could only help his career, but he has to understand that the 49ers are not going to fork over large amounts of cash. 5 year $30 million= almost assured Super Bowl Win playing on one of the top defenses in the NFL= easier path to the NFL HOF.

He might be worth it for $15 a year, but at his salary he's a tough sell, especially with only a year to go on the contract. And, if a team can convince him to renegotiate the contract for a few more years, you just know he'll hold out in year two and demand more.

The Jets should keep him but bench him for the year.

Here is a modest proposal: trade Revis to the Pats. Keep Tebow and run sweeps to Revis's side of the field with Tebow carrying the ball every play.

When Tebow played for Denver, the Pats figured them out. They countered by putting in all the jumbo-sized defensive linemen, so Denver's offensive line couldn't move them. They stuffed the run, and forced Tebow to pass, which didn't work out so well for Denver.

Pats should trade Brady to jets and let the Mallett era begin! hahahaha, even Brady wouldn't win with that coach and team, so trading within the div wouldn't be a problem.

I think you could make the arguement that when Dallas traded Herschel Walker he was their best player. That seemed to work out alright.

^ This.
The Jets are in full-rebuild mode with a lame duck head coach. The team needs to send Revis to a team like, oh... San Francisco for a whole passel of draft picks. Get some this year, and conditional picks for 2014.

Only problem is the ACL. I can't imagine anyone rolling the dice on a player with that salary and a bad wheel. Yeah, he might be back 100% but he probably won't.
