Lucas: Rose will return faster and stronger

08:09 AM ET 03.04 | Adrian Peterson has become the new template for sporting success after a major knee injury, and John Lucas III views AP's recovery through the lens of friend and former teammate Derrick Rose. In Lucas' mind, Rose could return from his torn ACL as dominant as Adrian Peterson did for the Minnesota Vikings this NFL past season. "I think he might come back better than AP," Lucas told RealGM. Ultimately, Lucas is hoping for Rose to make a full recovery, both physically and mentally. When Rose does come back, however, Lucas is confident in the 2011 NBA MVP being a better all-around player -- with elevated athleticism. ... [Said Lucas:] "I think he's going to come back faster and stronger, more athletic."

Just come back with a better jump shot and everything will be ok. The Bulls need him to create lanes for easy baskets for Noah even when he misses. They don't have a person on the roster that can create their own shot. They probably win the game in INDY if they did, defense only gets you so far

Rose will be back by the Nuggets game on March 18th. He'll have about 15-20 games to get ready for the postseason. That should be enough.

Spot on...
But, I do think he will come back physically stronger, they just need to relax and not rush him this season because the Bulls are not beating the Heat with him rusty.
If this kid develops a better jump shot and defense, he would be sick-scary.

Not enough to beat Miami...

I'm not convinced, basketball playler's knees are different than running back's knees. with all the jumping and landing in traffic in the paint, I wouldn't count on much from Rose this year and I wouldn't put any money on him being stronger or better next year with regard to his knee.

I agree, I remember when Jordan came back in 95 with 15 games left I believe. He's didn't have the feel with the team because he missed so much time.
And let's face it, Miami is going to win it all again this year barring injury.

Interesting would be nice, because the east this season is unwatchable besides Miami. Pacers might give them some trouble but everyone else in the east just can't compete at this point.

On to the topic, I hope John is correct. There are a few ways this could go.
Best case- Rose does come back strong like AP. since he has had ample time to work on his long range shot and spent more time in the weight room Rose comes back stronger with a completely healed knee and once again dominates the point guard position on a nightly basis and takes his stop back as the best PG in basketball. But this time his improved shot makes him completely un-guardable.
Worse Case- Rose never again regains the explosion he once had with his knee. And is forced to change up his game. He will still have great handles and strength but just won't be the finisher he once was.
As a bulls fan I really hope Rose comes back strong. As an NBA fan, I would like to see one of the best finishers, hardest competitors and most exciting players in the NBA today come back. Rose was a guy any basketball should want to see play and the league is better with him being great. Plus, by most accounts seems humble and like a decent guy would is very easy to cheer for. Derrick Rose has been fantastic and a very special talent, it would be a shame if an injury stole that from all fans.

Two differences:
-
Jordan came back cold; he was off for nearly two seasons with minimal training/conditioning and conditioning........where-as Rose has been rehabing/training.....hard.....for the past 10 months.
-
On top of that, Rose is 'coming back' at the age of 24 while Jordan made his 'come-back' at age 31. That's a BIG difference!
-
In my view.....you can't even begin to compare the two as similar occurances.

I was comparing the short amount of time they both would have to get acclimated to playing with their team before the playoffs started.

That's probably true...It will be enough to make things interesting in a series against Miami, though. And that's more than pretty much any other EC team can say at this point.

The worst case is that he could go on to have problems with his knee(s) for the rest of his career. I don't think anyone wants to see that.

Of course the Knee could hinder the rest of his career, but I'm fairly optimistic about this one. Rose seems like the type of guy who can overcome a bad injury both mentally and physically. Plus he's young and was so much quicker, faster and stronger then most PG. he could lose a bit and still be the best.
