Johan Santana's curt responses on Sunday morning provided strong hints to his mood, as did the bullpen session he threw 10 days ahead of the timetable suggested by Sandy Alderson one day earlier. And if there was any lingering doubt about how Santana felt after reading the papers, his manager clarified. "He's [ticked] off," [Collins] said. "He has every right to be." Why was Santana upset, and why did he accelerate his throwing program? It began on Saturday afternoon, when Alderson said that Santana was not in pitching shape when he reported to spring training. ... [Following a bullpen session], Santana declined to answer questions, but did ask media members if they could spell "spring training."
