As someone who's from charlotte, I whole heartedly embrace the idea of the hornets name returning. While the bobcats don't have awful attendance despite how garbage they have been so far in their existance, the town has never really embraced them. There is a large number of people who have always resented them for not being the hornets. The hornets were this towns original major sports franchise, getting it's name and colors back would be a very feel good story.

Having lived in Charlotte, I agree that the Bobcats name never really stuck with people around here. A lot of it was because of the arrogance with former owner Bob Johnson and the thought that he named the team after himself. A name change won't fix the problems with the team on the court, but bringing the Hornets name back will at least heal up some wounds off the court. There are a lot of people that simply won't support the current team because it's not Hornets. Sounds petty to some, but in an area where heritage means a lot it's a big deal. Heck, you still see far more Charlotte Hornets gear around town (and even in other cities) than you ever did Bobcats.

A Charlotte team by any other name smells the same.
