Chiefs moves pave way for Milliner to go No. 1

08:03 AM ET 03.05 | The dominoes falling include Kansas City's acquiring a quarterback and using its franchise tag on left tackle Branden Albert. And while retaining Albert, a five-year starter, by no means guarantees that the Chiefs will avoid selecting a left tackle, it certainly doesn't aid the perception that they will. Most NFL Draft analysts projected Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel -- or even Central Michigan's Eric Fisher -- to land with the Chiefs. Now, they're not so certain. "[Dee Milliner] now has shot at being first CB ever taken No. 1 overall," NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt wrote on his Twitter account. "Not saying it will happen, but pieces falling into place."

First time a CB will be taken #1 overall in a while.

I just don't see it, unless they trade back a few spots.

March 5, 2013  08:33 AM ET

I think the Chiefs would love to trade back a bit and get more picks, but who wants that first pick?

With slotted money for draft picks in place, I think there are some teams that would make that trade. A round 1-10 drafting team . Money is not the issue anymore with that pick. a team that really wants a left tackle. I suppose they would have to add in their third round pick to even it out.

I can see the Eagles making a move up for that pick. They need a LT bad and have the first round pick to do it.

KC could be a surprise in a season or two. With Andy Reid, he was able to get a lot out of every QB he ever had...this will benefit Alex Smith. If they hold on to Bowe and with Charles in the backfield, this team has some good working parts.

With a good draft, KC might be a challenger...would be nice to see for Chiefs fans.

If they can, generally speaking the only time someone trades up to #1 or #2 is when a QB is involved. I happen to believe the that there will be a bunch of trading in this draft .

March 5, 2013  09:55 AM ET

They need to commit to their defensive front 7 or even get another offensive lineman before they think about a CB.

Who knows they may even go the QB route and pick an eventual replacement for Alex Smith.

I don't think there's a quarterback in the draft who's shown he's worth a #1 pick, though. If there's a Russell Wilson in there, he's hiding it well.

They signed a 5-year deal with Bowe.

Would say the 49ers but with all their picks they need mucho dollers to sign the new guys and another #1 will be seeking the bigger bucks.
Give the pick to the Saints since they were screwed out of a #2 pick by Goody Goodell for his perceived and I do mean PERCEIVED bounty scandal.
Chiefs did themselves good by signing Bowe to a new contract.

If by perceived you mean that management admitted they were warned by the NFL to stop placing bounties, and then Payton and company said they would - but they didn't stop with the bounties - then yeah, you're right. And then they lied to cover up the fact there was still a system in place, then yeah, it was perceived. Try to be objective.

Agreed. They could get a decent young QB at the top of round 2 if they decide to go that way.

The Bengals.

Plus they are loaded with several All-SEC Studs on the team, already.

March 5, 2013  12:49 PM ET

Suddenly the 49ers and the plethora of draft picks they have come to the forefront when looking for an answer to, "Who wants the #1 pick?"

Don't see it either. Trade it for 2 more picks would be the wiser move.
