L.A. NFL plan on life support

08:04 AM ET 03.05 | Of course, the final decision will come down to money. As people in Los Angeles await word on the sale of the Anschutz Entertainment Group, the NFL doesn't sound too enthusiastic about the firm's plan to build a downtown stadium. Less than six months after the L.A. city council voted unanimously to support AEG's plan, the concept is essentially dead to the NFL, according to two sources. The problems with the plan are numerous, but the most essential one is the economics. "The numbers just don't work, no matter how you look at the deal," a league source said in February. ... Officially, a league spokesman said Monday that the NFL is still tracking what AEG is trying to do.

With or without a team in LA, this is always the case.

As long as L.A. is tied to the AEG "plan"... there will be no NFL in L.A.
Simple as that. The economics are so slanted toward AEG (or whatever they become) that the NFL isn't going near it.

The numbers don't work? I know I could build an 85,000 seat stadium in a city of 5 million people where it's 75 degrees all year and make it work. Are they waiting for the state of California to pay for the whole thing AND give them tax breaks?

LA is the red herring. Always will be. The NFL does not want a team there, only the threat of moving one there to squeeze public money for new stadiums in a city near you. If LA ever did get a team, not going to happen, then the NFL has NO place to threaten to move to again. The last refuse of a cabal of scoundrels.

And if there ever was a team in LA, so what are the Sultans of Swindlers ( i.e. NFL owners ) going to say to their city councils? " If you don't build me a new stadiums I will move to ..Jacksonville? San Antonio, Casper Wyoming? ? ? ? "....Really!

The NFL has thrived without LA for over 17 years. It can continue to do so. In all honesty, they are better off without a city more worried about it's looks and fru-fru drinks.

I like it.
The NFL would be at best in third place behind the Lakers and Dodgers. LA didn't support the Rams or the Raiders. Why would anyone think this will change now?

The problem was Los Angeles committing to AEG, when another developer had already spent years getting a plan together that had the potential to work. All LA wanted to do was follow the money, thinking AEG's billions would mean more for the city. Instead, not it is getting nothing.

The only support a NFL Team could get in L.A. is life support, what makes them think it can work now when it never has.
