08:07 AM ET 03.05 | Charlotte power forward Tyrus Thomas may be falling out of favor in Charlotte. [Thomas] was told not to accompany the team on its four-game West Coast trip by team management. Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins said Monday that the front office felt Thomas's time would be better spent in Charlotte, doing some physical rehabilitation and individual on-court work, rather than on the road with his team. ... The Bobcats have a considerable financial obligation to Thomas going forward -- $8.6 million for the 2013-14 season and $9.4 million for the 2014-15 season, both guaranteed. It's possible the Bobcats could use their one-time amnesty waiver on Thomas this summer.

Seems a bit unprofessional on the part of management to say don't join the team in it's little field trip.

He did get into a scuffle with the ex coach but that was what last year lol. I don't think he is a tradeable peace. He has two years left. If he had one more year I would maybe agree with you. I am sure they tried shopping him already and I bet they found no takers. So you either pay him for nothing or you amnesty him and he has been injured and has some knee problems. They would rather pay him to stay home and be well below the salary cap next year.

It would be nice to be a malcontent, locker-room-cancer, benchwarmer and being paid $18M over the next 2 years. I think I could live with it.

Jgb,
If they were smart they have looked at this as well. According to what I found they are slightly over the cap hoopsworld.com. Although I think the cap is like 58Mill they are right near it at 57 million They are not well below the salary cap. They are not near luxury tax but they are right near the salary cap. Not many teams are willing to trade for a PF making 8Mill per with a 30%FG 5 ppg and for two years. You amnesty poor performing players that have no value via trade or that are hurt. What bad teams with cap room would be willing to take Thomas? I can't think of one example where it makes sense.

They are right at the cap according numbers from hoopsworld.com. They are not near luxury tax level but they are right near the cap. Two years is plenty for a team with no immediate playoff aspirations. Who would take his contract on two years 5ppg 30%FG ~17Million lol? That will be the GM that is fired, nail in coffin for that team. The players that get amnesty are hurt, overpaid, and can't be traded. I am sure Charlotte shopped him because he is not vital to their future.

JGB,
That is a lateral move that would make little sense for anyone picking up Thomas. You don't take back garbage just because a player is a cancer with multiple years bad knees and unproductive. If they recognize Bargnani is equivalent to Thomas why would Toronto make any move like that. We are talking two more years so this season and two additonal seasons

Hard to believe he was traded for Lamarcus Aldridge after the draft. The Bulls really screwed up.

Uh.....you do realize that even if he gets amnestied......the team still has to pay him......right? Only thing is that his salary (which is guaranteed) won't count against the salary cap.
