Even though he has been lauded for a job well-done in Moscow and his name will surface for future general manager jobs in the National Hockey League, Stevie Yzerman is not prepared to make the commitment to become a full-time GM.

He's a smart man with no desire to set himself up for failure. He knows he has a lot to learn about being a GM with a salary cap. Its not like the old days where you just had to sign people, and you've seen alot of GMs lose their jobs because of it. He wants to learn the job inside and out before he takes over that kind of position. He also would not want to put his friend Ken Holland (one of the best in the game) in rough water, like Messier did in New York when he made his desires to be a GM known to the public. This is a classy man who doesn't make many poor decisions (if any, ever), and this would not be a decision he would make lightly. We'll see him in the job before we ever hear that he wants it - its just the way he does business, and that's why he receives the respect and admiration of NHL insiders and fans alike. (I'm a huge fan, if you haven't figured it out)

The classiest man in hockey will make a move if/when he knows it would best serve whichever team he would be working for.

Stevie is the class act that all athlete's and men alike should model themselves after. In the very least he will stay on with the Wings as a "special role". His love for the Wings and the Illitch family runs deep!!!

Yzerman can come cut his teeth in Columbus!!! Couldn't be worse than MacLean.

He's learning from one of the best GMs around in Ken Holland. Just look at the way Holland has been able to put a winning team together for so many years. It will serve Stevey better if he takes another year or two as an understudy so he can learn some more of the intricate details before becoming a GM.
