08:21 AM ET 03.05 | Entering Tuesday's game, a three-game goal-scoring drought isn't keeping Alex Ovechkin from making a significant request. [Ovechkin wants the] puck and he wants it in the neutral zone. Even more so, he's asked center Mike Ribeiro for it. "Of course I want more pucks on my stick, especially in neutral zone," the Washington Capitals captain said Monday. "I talk to Ribs all the time about it like if I have speed, just give it to me." ... The two have developed chemistry, even if Ovechkin has just eight goals this season. Asked about Ovechkin wanting the puck to carry into the offensive zone, Ribeiro said it's dependent on break-outs. "If I don't have the puck coming out of my zone it's hard to give it to him," Ribeiro said.

Is there anybody Alex Ovechkin doesn't want to piss off anymore?
Better yet, is there anybody on Washington who really thinks this is the best fit anymore?

he's been one of the few real reasons to watch this team (no tweak meant to my Caps' fan friends!) for the last number of years. even though he may not be top 10 anymore, as some have asserted, he is still a great player, and certainly one that most people would want on their team...let the guy have his say I think.
As to the "best fit" right now...hard to say...can't figure the direction they're trying to take this team yet

It's gotten to the point that this guy just needs to be humbled. You've won scoring titles and a few playoffs series....whoop-dee-doo, now its time to focus on making the players around you better rather than trying to do it solo.
Best players in the league make everyone around them better. Take note Ovie.

Ok lets do this, lets all jump on top of Ovie because he made a statement that he would like the puck more.....Right..... Anyone here want to be honest and admit that you could place any number of names in this headline because at the end most all shooters ..... wait 4 it......wait 4 it.... want the puck!!! I know I know smashing headlines here right but hey Ovie said it so lets dogpile him. Any1 here know who takes the the most shots in the league? 1. Tavares 2. Parise 3. Kane yes Ovie is 4 but there are 8 players in the league with over 80 shots already. The problem as I see it on a nightly basis is that Ovie is slowly getting use to Ribs, see if anyone out there had a clue there is a player his name is Nick Backstrom, he plays Center for the Caps anyone heard of him? Anyone? Well this particular center was Ovie's center for seasons and thier chemistry worked great for years. Now if any knows this or not, Oates broke them up and Ovie IMO is still having a hard time adjusting but hey everyone here knows this right? So since Ovie asked Ribs for the puck lets thrash him, spike him, vile him, trash him, grill him, BBQ him and overall hate the guy because oh dear god a shooter asked for the puck......

I'll admit the only time i've seen the Caps this season has been when they were getting beat on by the Leafs, so I'm not sure if he's been "exciting". But he was supposed to be the guy who you build a team around. Frankly, anybody making $10m/season should be the guy you build around. But failure here, which is all this appears to be, has such awful consequences for the franchise. Like you said, not sure what the grand plan is, if there is one, but something's gotta give. The next GM is gonna have a seriously tough job to do.

Good morning.
I am not suggesting BBQ, Ovie. In fact, in recent past, I have stated that I think he is a scape-goat for most, if not all, Caps' woes. I do think though he should talk less, and play hard, play his game, because if he hasn't learned by this point, no matter what he says, they will use against him.

Backstrom and Ovie's chemistry has been declining for years, along with Backstrom's consistency and health/fitness.
The fact is this team nosedived from annual Cup contender to afterthought very, very rapidly, and the fact that they have a guy eating up over $10 million in cap space every season and is worth barely half of that in production is definitely conversation-worthy, particularly with a couple of amnesty buyouts on the table.

Would just about any star say that yeah but...coming from a player that has a history of trying to do it all on his own it's not same

I agree with ya DWI.....if Ovie just learned that the press is gonna dog him no matter what he says then maybe he wouldn't talk to them. Keep your head up ....your mouth shut and play...that's the best way to do your talking.

Caps have Ribeiro.
Stars have Eakin.
I'm happy.

Were the Leafs the ones who traded for Scott Gomez?
Habs still have a buyout, right? Or is that one already reserved for Kaberle?
It's pretty clear where the bad contracts end up on the Canadian side of the NE Division.

The press isn't the problem. He can say whatever he wants to whomever he wants. It's just dangerous/foolish to believe you have more sway than you truly do. I don't think he's even a bit of an influence in that dressing room.

I hope everybody on the team is po'd. They should be. Most of the team has played below their ability for most of this year. There are always "excuses"...........no camp, injuries, new linemate. Tough break. Should Ovie get criticized? Heck yes. Is he the main problem with this team? Nope. One thing I'll say for him, even in the underperforming last couple of years, he works hard, all the time. So he gets paid enough to buy beer at the ACC? On a related topic, I've really gotten to enjoy Ribiero. Mostly because he irritates the dickens out of everybody on the other team. Whining, writhing, crying, b*tching. Great, keep it up and let's get some help from a few more guys.

Sorry about the long post earlier but defending Ovie over and over again gets me boiling. Has he declined some? Yes Would I like to see him rework his contract to maybe come down to say 8M a year? Y Its just that like some of you have stated what Ovie says gets magnified. He could be standing at the urinal with Ribs and state "Hey how about the puck tonight?" and in 30 sec it would be on the wire saying how hard he is being on Ribs for the puck. In the end lets just play the game and not worry so much about what players say to each other wether they say it in the press, the lockeroom or standing at the urinal together.

I've always said Ribeiro is a guy anyone should want on their team, regardless of whether or not he loses tough guy points for diving now and again.

LOL. At least he doesn't slap guys like Alex Semin. By the way, I'm not turning on Alex either. He's shown some of his amazing abiliities down in Carolina and I do think he's got as much talent, when he wants to use it and is motivated, as anybody in the league. Agree with you obviously about Ribs. He ain't gonna win tough guy of the week. But when he's on your team he's fun, more importantly effective. When he's with the other guys you want to strangle him!
