One of Colorado's centers has to go

08:23 AM ET 03.05 | Thanks to the Flames forcing its hand, Colorado is between a rock and a hard place up the middle. If the Avs still really want to trade Ryan O'Reilly, they need to maximize his value again, which means giving him substantial ice time with top-six linemates so he can put meaningful points on the board. But if they do that, Matt Duchene or Paul Stastny will have to either drop down to being a third-line center, or Duchene will have to play left wing again. ... Somebody is going to have to go. The Avs need to either trade one of their three centers or get better third-line wingers to play with one of those guys. ... My solution? I think Stastny is the guy they need to seriously consider moving.

Right, i'm sure teams are dying for a 2nd line (at best) centre who's making $6.6 mil for another season.

Then again, maybe a change of scenery/better linemates would make him a better player.

I think that Stastny would be the guy to go, and I think he's more than welcome here (NY)

You meant NYI, right?

Seriously, I've never seen another player like O'Reilly create so much turmoil yet produced so little. Maybe if the guy proves himself a little more, he'll be worthy of this sorta talk.

Man I thought we were done with Av's centers for awhile

More overpaid underachievers?

Is it the late 90s/early 00's again, Spiny?

no, I was referring to the team that plays on 33rd street

well granted he's no O'Rielly...(FN tweak)
but i think on team with better players he'd be pretty good...not a top guy of course, but a reall good wing on a 2nd or 3rd line

I know I know. Aren't you stockpiled with enough over paid talent for one year?!

March 5, 2013  09:18 AM ET

Never mind the centers, how about those awful blue jerseys?

forget going...never should have been made in the first place.

wouldn't be tuesday unless we had an O'reilly thread...of sorts.

Knicks? Spiny, we're talking about hockey.

(NYC hockey indifference tweak)

Says the man whose team is giving away cap space to a goalie who will never play for them rather than pay a few players who actually would.

can't even protest the tweak, my NYC brethren are largely indifferent to this sport.
they get the 18,200 (or whatever it is since renovations) at most games...but alas, the average sports fan in the metro area has 6 professional sports teams to follow, plus the Islanders, Mets and Jets (L.I. tweak)

Flames forcing its hand is BS. Once the price gets too high let him go, bring up some fresh talent. From what I remembered he wasn't producing enough for big money.

There might be a team or two out there that have cap space and might be interested in O'Reilly's services ..... if the price is right.

Scratch that! I'll be Kessel for O'Reilly, straight up! That's the trade that Avs fans want to see.

I'll just never forget being there during playoffs, and the bar I went to wouldn't change the April Mets game to the Rangers playoffs game. Even back in May when I was there during the Jersey-NYR series, didn't really get any feel whatsoever that there was excitement about the team.

O'Reilly can't move until NEXT summer.
