08:24 AM ET 03.05 | At the time a forward with San Jose, Dominic Moore disappeared over the final two Stanley Cup playoff games in an April series against the Blues. Later in June, the reason was revealed. Katie Moore, his wife of less than two years, had been diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer. ... She died Jan. 7, at the age of 32. It had been less than a month since her death when he reached out to speak about the shock, illness, hope and fortitude that had marked their last nine months together. "She would have wanted to share her story," he says. Grief is its own animal. You can never know how it will act, what it will make you feel or want to do, until it has you in its grip. It's different for everyone. What spills out from Moore is the need to bring her back.

God bless him. Helps put things in perspective when you realize the things in life that are really important.

Can't really come up with anyway of looking at this story but wow what a sad tale. Hope time gives him some comfort but to be taken out so young. Hope the family finds thier way through this, pretty shocking

Yep. Sometimes we forget that players and their families are people too. They are mortal just like anybody else. Godspeed, Dominic!

When I read the first line of the article, I started thinking, "Well, what so odd about that? That's what Sharks players do in the playoffs."

I'm glad I read the rest of the article. At least Dominic had a legitimate excuse. And, like you, I feel for the guy.

His life will never be the easy going same, as before her passing. Condolences.

Far too young to be sure. My mom passed from cancer 10 years ago. My condolences to Moore and his and her families. Never an easy thing - even if you know it's coming.

I know I wouldn't be able to focus very well on playing if I were in his position.
