NRA to sponsor NASCAR race

11:06 AM ET 03.05 | The Texas Motor Speedway announced a one-year agreement with the National Rifle Association to sponsor their NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in April. Included in the one-year agreement is an a renewal option to continue the sponsorship of the race. The National Rifle Association 500 will be on April 13 and will air on FOX and MRN. The anouncement comes just one week after the running of the Daytona 500, which included a car driven by Michael Waltrip and featured fundraising efforts for the victims and survivors of the Newtown, Conn., shootings. Draws some irony to some people about the car honoring a shooting while an upcoming race receives sponsorship from a gun activist association.

Texas is the ONLY state where the NRA could sponsor a race and not have people in an up-roar.. SMART move on the NRA's part.. STUPID move on Nascar's part for not stepping in and having the backbone to say 'No' to the sponsorship of the race.. guess they'll take money from anyone.. they don't care

All for the 2nd Amendment.. This has nothing to do with the right to bare arms.. this organization is just a bad idea for Nascar when its trying to win back its fan-base

there has been somewhat of an up-roar.. but i really don't see what the problem is myself.. i'm sure 99% of the people who go to the tracks are gun owners

Can't say I agree with every position the NRA has taken over the years, but on most of them I stand with them. I have no problem with the NRA sponsoring a race and they are welcome to come up to NH any time.

Good year for guns but a better gun was the Colt 1873 Peacemaker, the actual gun that tamed the west

Don't lump us in with the moonbats in Massachusetts and Maine. This state still has plenty of folks who aren't giving up their guns for nobody. And as much as Vermont is almost an is insane asylum when it comes to politics, they do have the least oppressive gun laws in the country so they are cool on that subject too.

Nothing to do with guns, but I will not watch that race. The NRA spends too much money on lobbyists...

True.. but in Kentucky we don't go hunting with AK-47 or AR 15 assault rifles.. at least I don't

Same thing I was thinking.. NRA has too many of our elected leaders in their hip pocket.. including 'Uncle Mitch'

I'm thinking of skipping this race also.
I am very disappointed that Nascar is letting the NRA sponsor a race.....and this has absolutely nothing to do with the 2nd amendment......it has everything to do with the NRA itself.
