12:51 PM ET 03.05 | Former U.S. Senator George Mitchell thinks that Penn State is "making progress" towards implementing recommendations from the Freeh Report. As part of the sanctions imposed by the NCAA, Mitchell was appointed to monitor Penn State's compliance with those recommendations, and thinks things are on the right track in State College. Mitchell says that he has received almost unanimous cooperation from Penn State administration, and that the state of Pennsylvania's lawsuit against the NCAA over the sanctions has had no effect on the process.

As much as people get excited about the success that Penn State had last year, the success they have in implementing structural changes in their administration are far more important. While no set of rules or procedures can prevent a person from doing evil, a culture that will not tolerate evil can limit its scope and damage. I hope Penn State can become an example of the right way to operate a university.

Sounds like PSU is doing just fine in spite of the state of Pennsylvania sticking their nose in this.

That is why PSU is "doing just fine", because the state did get involved, like they should!!!!
