08:00 AM ET 03.06 | The clock may be ticking on Chicago Cubs closer Carlos Marmol. [Marmol] will most likely be pitching for another team before Opening Day. Several teams, including the Detroit Tigers, are taking a hard look at the reliever, according to league sources, with the regular season just three weeks away. ... Marmol will earn close to $10 million this season and can opt for free agency in November. Marmol can veto a deal to four West Coast clubs, but a source said Marmol would most likely waive that clause knowing he would be traded to a contender. Although the Cubs have no pressure on them to move Marmol, it appears they would not hesitate to deal him for young pitching.

Marmol's problems have always been in his head. When's he's on, he's unhittable. When he isn't concentrating, he's walking everyone.

How exactly is Marmol an upgrade over last season's Valverde?

I doubt the Cubbies could get much for Marmol. Just some salary relief and a class A prospect or two. I think Marmol's biggest problem is overthrowing the ball which really hurts his control. Maybe a good pitching coach could help him but I doubt he can become a reliable above average closer.

Holy Cow! Carlos Mammal has just walked in another run. Boy oh boy. Carlos spelled backward is SOLRAC. Nothing quenches thirst like Budweiser when Carlos walks in another run. Holy Cow!
