08:05 AM ET 03.06 | Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander is making the media rounds these days, on Tuesday visiting with CNN's. Among the highlights aired [Tuesday] morning were further Verlander thoughts on becoming baseball's first $200-million pitcher (summary: he wants to get paid) and what it would be like to have a gay teammate (he's fine with it): * On whether he was humbled by playing with pro golfers in the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am last month: "I wouldn't say I was humbled. I got a new respect." * On comments he made about the $200 million: "They got taken out of context a little bit, but I'm not going to take back what I said. Do you want to be the first $200-million pitcher? Yeah, absolutely."

Of course he wants that kind of a new deal, but Detroit has him signed until 2015....No need to discuss it on their part....dumb if they do.

On the other side of it when are baseball fans who buy the tickets and sponsors of the game say enough is enough.

under contract through 2014 with current 5 year 79 million contract. A 4 year extension at 30 a year would make him the first 200 mil player. And - he would still be young enough to continue to earn it.

Is there one team that has given out one of these 7-8+ year monster deals where the guy has actually lived up to his entire contract?

For the most part, Manny put up the numbers for the 8 years he was in Boston.

Why would the sponsors say anything? Aren't they the ones feeding these new contracts with all this TV money? But the fans should give a big F U as for going to the games or buying any merhandise for sure. There is absolutely no excuse for the high price of seats around the league. And please spare me the "stadium vendors need to get paid a decent salary" excuse!

Probably the biggest roider in the game, other than Cal Ripken and Ryne Sandberg.

the tigers should be smart enough, do not fall for verlander demands,,there are better ways to soft things down, like they say this guy is been signed untill 2015, so what's the the rush here??

March 6, 2013  10:22 AM ET

now situations as cano or any other player closer to their last year playing time? then teams should explore their better options and advantage!!
