08:09 AM ET 03.06 | They like their linemen big at Alabama -- very big. Earlier this week, 350-pound defensive tackle Charles Mosley named Alabama as his leader. Now the Crimson Tide has offered another prospect well in excess of the 300-pound mark -- 6-foot-5, 340-pound offensive lineman Damien Mama of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco. "It was really exciting to get an offer from them," Mama told Rivals.com. ... Alabama has offered several offensive linemen in the 300-plus range since Mario Cristobal was hired last month, including Lackawanna (Penn.) Community College tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (6-6, 300), Nassau (N.Y.) Community College tackle Chad Mavety (6-6, 320), and Corona (Calif.) Centennial guard Viane Talamaivao (6-3, 300).

Come to ala-BAMMY where you don't have to go to class or study.... Saban sees to that!

Aw come on BIR, they at least have to go to class. Having to pay attention in class and/or study might be a different story, but at least they attend class.

You can bet that the local Tuscaloosa all-you-can-eat buffet proprietors are making plans to close up on the days when the University Training Table is not serving food.

If Damien Mama is 300+, how big is Mama's mama?

Being 300 lbs. doesn't necessarily make a DL special.
Finding that 290-300 lb. guy who can play the 3 technique --- blasting into the opponent's backfield and disrupting plays --- now THAT's special. Those types are hard to find.

I think you are 100% correct. But those guys are hard to find. If you get some 300lb guys they can just lean on you and come the 4th quarter you are one tired dude.

Go to Penn State where you can be molested by coaches and the AD and administration looks the other way!!

Kind of hypocritical when you guys hired someone who has done the exact same thing and will probably do it at Ohio State, or is already doing it.

Now, having addressed most of the idiot gallery posts.... We've always gone after large offensive linemen. DL not as much, but you don't need as many DL in a 3-4 as you need on OL.

Agree.
With the exception of nose guard. Saban has always wanted to have a very big body at NG. Can't argue with his record.

First, I didn't, I don't, and probably I won't want Meyer as a coach. Second, a good part of the reason I don't like Meyer was his proclivity to stray/stay in the grey parts of the rules. Third, the past doesn't predict future results, so hold off on the allegations. Fourth, the B1G has rules to prevent the mass processing of student-athletes.
AND the original quote still stands for saban.

Hey, sometimes you don't even know you've got one! Jay Ratliff came out of Auburn and immediately showed a propensity for getting in the backfield and disrupting ... so what does Jerry do? Puts him at Defensive End!
Idiot!
