Wild GM pondering numerous trade options

08:18 AM ET 03.06 | Trades are an option for the Minnesota Wild, but GM Chuck Fletcher has enough of those options that it's difficult to know which way to go. [Fletcher is] working internally to determine whether he will try to sign any of his potential unrestricted or restricted free agents to extensions. If unsigned, Matt Cullen, Niklas Backstrom and Pierre-Marc Bouchard can become completely free July 1 and are the type of players who playoff contenders typically pursue as "rentals" at the deadline. ... If the Wild is still in the playoff race, the team would be less likely to trade a veteran such as Cullen or its No. 1 goalie, Backstrom. "It's great to have all these kids, but it's still a hard league for 20- and 21-year-old kids," Fletcher said.

Tough spot for the team and Wild fans to be in. I'm worried that Fletch is going to say, "we owe it to our fans to make a run at the playoffs," and then we miss by 4 points, end with a later draft pick and no extra picks acquired from trades, but all the while talking about the "momentum" we built up for next year and how we are developing a winning culture. Thier big issue as I see it is Parise and Koivu are not up to where they should be, Backstrom is in the last year of his contract and needs a change in scenary and my god Grandlund you were on the ice for 3 goals last night get it together man.
