Boyle prayed on the bench for Staal

08:19 AM ET 03.06 | The puck that rocketed off Jakub Voracek's blade and into the right eye of Marc Staal has become the latest argument for wearing a visor. Staal went down immediately, clutching his face, writhing in agony, blood spotting the rink, before he skated immediately to the locker room. Of course the defenseman did not return in the Rangers' 4-2 victory over the Flyers. The fear in the aftermath of the match doesn't concern Staal's status for tomorrow night's match on the Island. It is about the 26-year-old's vision. ... "I'm praying it's not the worst," Brian Boyle told The Post. "I said a couple of prayers [on the bench] when it happened. It's scary. It makes you queasy. He's a friend, not only a teammate."

Zero sympathy. It's called a visor.

Boyle prayed on the bench for Staal
He was praying for a delay of game?

Certainly hope he's ok. I remember when this happened to Barry Ashbee (in MSG, no less). It ended his career. Hope Staal doesn't have that happen.

What do you think of yesterday's big red card DL??
While dangerous, I thought red a bit over the top, certainy wasn't forceful.

At the pool at lunch I see an ex-NHL/WHAer.
He says for the money these guys are making these days, only an idiot wouldn't at least where a visor if not a full cage.
He'd also wear the cutproof socks.

Looked pretty brutal. Going around it seems, since whoever on the Lightning the other night scored a goal with his nose.

Why would he wanna wear a visor ?? Its totally not cool to use one...in fact its very manly not to use one..so what if he loses an eye..God has given him a spare one...only pussay's these days wear visors.

Anybody that complains about refs should really tune in to some footie to see how a ref can really mess up a game.
I'm quite anti video-replay, but if there's any situation that I think a replay is in order it's on straight red-card plays like that. You basically doom at team's Champions League season on a questionnable call. It's enough to turn off anybody on the fence regarding the sport.

It was the TSN turning point in spades.

Ruined what was turning out to be a game worthy of the hype. Reds do get given for that, but in this case I don't think Nani had any idea Arbeloa was behind him.
It did leave a decent mark, though.

I just don't understand it. Why risk anything when you don't have to?

Of course it did.
I was concerned right from the get go when I saw the ref was from Turkey.

Sadly, that's the attitude that has existed forever.

Today's Juve-Celtic ref is also Turkish. Given the teams involved, the talking the coaches have been doing leading up to this, and the current scoreline, this could be one to watch.

Don't know. As they said on NBCS last night, Crosby and Stamkos wear visors and it certainly doesn't seem to stop them from being pretty good.
Beer league I once saw a guy on the other team, on their bench, take a puck to the mouth; wasn't wearing a visor, cage or anything. Going in front of the net one time I turned around to have the slapshot hit my cage right in front of my right eye; would have destroyed my eye, but instead concaved my cage and sprayed my face with paint chips. I don't get it, even a little helps. And pretty much all of the NHLers came from junior or college where a full cage is required, so it's not like they haven't wore something before.

I've never considered not wearing a cage. I understand i'm not playing professionally, but like you said, if it works fine for Sid and Stamkos, why the hell wouldn't it for Marc Staal?

Yes,
did you see where JT Miller put the puck on his tape, it bounced off, went behind the goal and crashed into the end boards, started flailing with his stick...Flyers d-man swoooped in, grabbed the puck and off the other way.
He is praying he will still be in the NHL next year

Flyers announcers jinxed Staal.
They were going on and on about him and his performance last year and this year and then Wham this happened.
