Should NHL make visors mandatory?

08:55 AM ET 03.06 | New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal was part of a scary moment in the third period of the team's 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night when he took a puck directly to his right eye. When will these hockey players learn to wear visors? Of course, you could also make the argument that the NHL should make players wear helmets with full facemasks like players wear at the collegiate level, but there would be people saying the helmets restrict the players' vision and could take away from the quality of the game. What do you think of the issue?

Let the players decide for themselves. How often does something like this happen? Mandatory visors sounds like an overreaction.

I think they should wear full shield motorcycle helmets.

Yeah, but head injuries happened more often and there was a great chance of one occurring. I'm sure tho, that visors will become mandatory just like helmets.

Bull Tell them they are wearing them or they have to pay the insurance to protect the teams investment in them and the players will cave in like a Elliot Lake shopping mall

It would definitely be safer, but can anyone picture Shawn Thornton in a visor? Next thing you know, we're back to full masks and guys are coming up wrapped up in bird cages like Ray Lewis.

Just so everyone is perfectly clear, it's not a big deal until it happens to Sidney Crosby.

I suspect it'll come in the way the helmets did, probably due to something in collective bargaining. Players that enter the league after a certain date have to wear one, older players are grandfathered and can sign a waiver.
I know some minor leagues require it (supposedly due to insurance company restrictions, at least that's the excuse given).

exactly..."you don't want to wear one? Fine. here's the deal if you get hurt for not wearing one:
1) The insurance is on you.
2) Your contract becomes temorarily suspended. After all, as an owner, I am paying you to provide a service to me. And if you are unable to provide this because of your own actions...why should I pay you?

Remember Esa Tikkanen's last year or 2? His knee was held together by rubber bands and he signed waivers saying it was on him if it blew up.
