08:57 AM ET 03.06 | It came as a bit of a surprise on Monday when the Kansas City Chiefs decided to use the franchise tag on offensive tackle Branden Albert right at the 4 p.m. ET deadline. It was initially expected that Albert would hit the free agent market which would clear the way for the Chiefs to select Luke Joeckel with the first-overall pick, but that was all in question after Albert got the tag. Now that we are nearly a day past the franchise tag deadline, there is a report that could shine some light on what the Chiefs had in mind when they placed the tag on Albert. According to a report, there is a chance that the Chiefs could look to trade Albert. The thought process behind trading Albert is that the team could be trying to recoup some of the draft picks that they lost in the trade for Alex Smith.

I'd get rid of Branden Albert... sign Jake Long as a right tackle and draft Luke Joeckel.

Trade him to Dallas for OLB Spenser. Solves two problems.

A lot of Alex Smith's successes in SF can be tied to Harbaugh putting together a rock solid offensive line that protected his quarterback very well. Same O-line has made a huge difference for Kaepernick.
Andy Reid needs to do whatever it takes to properly protect Alex. And, you never have too many good offensive linemen. Never.

They just released RT Eric Winston. I have a gut feeling that they'll keep Albert, move him to RT (where he originally played and a position he was MUCH more comfortable with), and draft Luke Joeckel for the LT position. Just a feeling...

Don't forget Albert only gave up one sack, and had the least amount of penalties then 90% of the other left tackles in the league.

And trading him for any Dallas Cowcoy other then Brandon Carr is dumber then dirt.

Carr?
I can think of a number of players I'd take from Dallas' roster before I even thought about Carr.
DeMarcus Ware, Dez Bryant, Tyron Smith, Sean Lee, Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Jay Ratliff, Morris Claiborne, probably even Anthony Spencer... the list goes on and on.

And even if we're considering CB a particular area of need, as I said I still think Mo Claiborne carries more value/potential than Carr. Carr was good but not great during his one season in Dallas.

Joeckel or Eric Fisher. Can't go wrong either way, in my opinion.

Jake Long is probably superior to Albert but it seems as if he's gonna cost an arm and a leg to sign. I think I'd stick with Albert and pair him with Joeckel/Fisher instead of breaking the bank for a potentially insignificant-to-minor upgrade in Long.
