Shawn Merriman plans to retire

01:11 PM ET 03.06 | The three-time Pro Bowl selection and 2005 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year said on his website Tuesday night that he intends to file retirement papers. "I retire today not because I don't feel I can go out there and still play the game at a very high level," Merriman wrote. "I am retiring because I want to retire on my own terms and leave while I know I can still physically play the game."

Either he's heard it through the grapevine that nobody is gonna go after him - Or -
He's trying to drum up business hoping someone will say "Don't retire... Here's a 3 year contract"...
Based on his time in Buffalo - the latter is not likely.

This is too bad, I'm sure he has a couple of good years left in him, that is if he can find a way to juice up and get around NFL PED testing.
