04:02 PM ET 03.06 | New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal is waiting for the swelling to go down around his right eye before having it examined by doctors, according to his brother Eric Staal. Marc was struck in the face with a deflected shot on Tuesday night during the team???s game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Staal was not wearing a visor at the time. As of Wednesday afternoon, the Rangers have yet to release official comment of Staal???s status. The incident has sparked the debate about the NHL???s place to mandate the use of protective visors by its players. The NHLPA has remained consistent that they want the players??? to have the right make their own decision on the matter.

I'm bettin' visor threads will be with us for a while as we get one update after another on whether or not they should be mandated up until there is a lockout over the issue.
