04:07 PM ET 03.06 | The NHL fully supports making facial visors a mandatory piece of equipment for all players, according to NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly in an email to Larry Brooks of the New York Post. Daly stated that the league and NHL Players??? Association briefly discussed the topic during collective bargaining negotiations. However, the NHLPA remained consistent that it should be up to individual players to wear the shields. Daly cited statistics that showed more players are wearing visors (up from 56 percent in 2009, to more than 70 percent in 2013). The debate has been sparked because of the incident involving New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal on Tuesday night.

as I recall, they didn't with helmets.
It's always funny watching old school footage and seeing like 1 player on the ice without a helmet. The whole concept is nuts...but for guys like the Flower it was normal.
