04:16 PM ET 03.06 | Notre Dame was expected to join the ACC prior to the 2014 seasons, but if the Catholic 7 schools leave the Big East this year, the Irish could seek to move up their departure from the Big East by a year as well. ACC commissioner John Swofford said that there isn't a firm deadline for Notre Dame to join the conference for the 2013 season, but the sooner, the better. The Big East requires 27 month notice in order to leave the conference, but if Notre Dame really wants to get out, they could negotiate a settlement fairly easily.

If they decide to join the ACC in FOOTBALL, let me know. Otherwise this is just blah, blah, blah...

They are joining, partially=five games a year against ACC teams I believe, rotating each year to that over three years they play all ACC football teams.
Huge change for ND, a recognition of the changes in the college football universe in the past few years.
Going to give them more exposure in the Southeast so they can start recruiting the few SEC recruits who can read and write (oh, can't wait to hear from the SEC fans on this!).

Not the way I see it. To me, it doesn't look too much different than the game of footsie ND plays with the BIG 10.

The only sports the B1G and ND regularly competed in were football (MSU, TSUN, and Perdue) and in Ice Hockey (CCHA). ND had a deal with the Big East that placed their non football sports in the Big East. So I would say that their deal with the ACC is more like their deal with the Big East.

5 games per season is a pretty significant committment. After all, half a loaf is better than none.
