Freeney on Denver's radar if Elvis leaves the Broncos

08:03 AM ET 03.07 | Though Denver may prefer to keep Elvis Dumervil -- at a reduced salary, of course -- there's a chance he'll walk. If the Broncos can't work a pay reduction with [Dumervil], a league source said the team would be interested in pursuing former Indianapolis Colt pass rusher and Peyton Manning teammate Dwight Freeney. The Colts have already announced they would allow Freeney to enter free agency when the market opens Tuesday. Freeney at 33 is no longer considered the pass rusher that Dumervil is at 29. Freeney had 5 and 8.5 sacks the past two seasons; Dumervil had 11 and 9.5. But the thinking would be the Broncos might be better off getting Freeney at, say, $5 million than Dumervil at $12 million.

Freeney isn't a threat anymore.

I don't see this as a viable option. DOOM is going to get the money a player of his caliber earns in this league and still has upside. Freeney has been a great player, but has benefited from playing in a dome stadium and is past his prime.

Freeney=Osi =short term fix in a part time role that is seeking long term $=bad math.

Isn't that what Peyton is also, a short term fix? Those that thought Denver would go to the Super Bowl last year are again thinking they will go this year, I don't.

I agree....

Freeney is a 5-6 sack guy now and VERY blockable.

Denver is best off drafting someone vs signing him.

Looked to me like Broncos were headed to the Super Bowl last season. If not for a colossal blunder by Moore, they would have been hosting Pats and would have been favored.

Look like a strong contender again this year at this time.

3-5 years of strong QB play is not what I'd call short term.

I agree with this.
