08:12 AM ET 03.07 | Free-agent reliever and ex-Giants closer Brian Wilson continues his rehabilitation these days in relative anonymity. [And] it might be several weeks into the season until he's ready to sign. Wilson, coming back from a second Tommy John ligament transfer surgery, prefers not to audition for clubs until he is 100 percent, according to a source with knowledge of the pitcher's situation. Wilson, who is throwing bullpen sessions, is said to be at about "80 to 85 percent." He did throw for the Mets in January, was underwhelming and, shortly afterward, apparently decided his best bet was to make sure his arm strength was all the way back before submitting to another audition.

Is it really "holding yourself back" if you know no one will sign you if you pitch for them?

March 7, 2013  10:04 AM ET

Well, this could take some serious time then.

He's doing the smart thing. He doesn't want to sign a minor league contract or the minimum.

Worst case scenario is that his career highlight is the post season dominance of 2010.

I know you're well versed in that one.........

I couldn't resist Chasin'!!! haha

As long as it's not Kokomo.

He's a washed up punk. Either he knows it and is buying time to create 'hype' so that someone will buy into it and sign him, or he's that delusional and thinks he still has something to offer.

Sandy Alderson is going to offer him a Big Lots Deal!!!

Awwww, still upset about him serving your Phils up some homestyle HEAT back in '10???

There's got to be a support group for that. Look it up.

This is how foolish athletes are. THe Giants offered him a contract that was low but with many performance incentives. Not having pitched for a year, who knows how well he can play. He should have grabbed the Giants offer if he believed he could still play instead of complaining about how insulted he was at the offer.

Yeah, it's called the rest of the league thinking the Giant's were at least a little lucky they found a way to score at all throughout any the post season.

He will get more gauranteed, gauranteed, his agent knows what he is doing.
