08:13 AM ET 03.07 | For now, slugger Jim Thome will head back home to Chicago -- and he'll wait. [Thome is] upbeat about his shape after working out hard [in Scottsdale, Ariz., but still] uncertain about his chances to play a 23rd major-league season. He has spent 10 days or so working out [in Scottsdale] with noted sports trainer Brett Fischer while hoping someone would call from the nearby Cactus League, or even the Grapefruit League. "I'm still a young lad," Thome, who's 42, joked. ... Thome admitted "nothing's happening right now," but he's hopeful that as things get later in the spring, and teams re-evaluate their needs, he might find work. "We'll see what happens. It would be great to play. I'd love to continue to play."

wiseup: Thome should retire while he has his health and has went out with a solid career. Too many times these 40 plus hitters try one more year and bombs out before being released

If he's looking to start I agree with you (especially at first), if he's looking to help a club at DH I think he could EASILY aid a team in that regard.

His phone will ring when someone's DH gets hurt.

truth be told-\
I don't care about the yankee payroll-
and would rather see a kid get a chance to play-
But if he hasn't gotten any calls yet- I don't see him getting anything more than a mil or 2
