Kazmir sliding into Indians' rotation

08:13 AM ET 03.07 | The reclamation project that is lefty Scott Kazmir's MLB career has found an encouraging home in Cleveland. Kazmir, competing for the fifth spot in the rotation, asked for and was granted a minor-league setting to get a better and deeper break on his slider because he knew he wouldn't throw it in a Cactus League game if the pitch started to get hit. He went three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk with five strikeouts. ... That the Indians granted Kazmir's request speaks well of his chances of being in the rotation on opening day, although Trevor Bauer, Carlos Carrasco, Daisuke Matsuzaka and David Huff will have something to say about that before the Indians break camp March 30.

it doesn't hurt to have top quality starters in your team,,where you always can choose a different pitcher without any hesitation,,, good for Kazmir i'm glad for him!!!

Rafael Furcal would have to get surgery done on his elbow, a TJS its required in order to be able to perform at the SS position,,except this guy is too old at 35 years old, by the time he returns to the game? he likely be at 36 and six months old, wonder why? furcal refuse to retire?? is it because of money??

March 7, 2013  04:14 PM ET

i think the mets and the yankees are the most affected teams in this 2013 season, too many injuries and not enough quality hitters at front!!!

March 7, 2013  04:15 PM ET

yankees would need another quality starter in their rotation, and if is lefty? the better!!!

March 7, 2013  04:16 PM ET

the dodgers DO HAVE at least 2 extra starters,,anybody needs pitching???

March 7, 2013  04:16 PM ET

March 7, 2013  04:18 PM ET

the red sox are getiing ready to trade ELLSBURY at the mid-season, should rangers jump in?
as we all know rangers are thin in their OF!!!

March 7, 2013  04:33 PM ET

the indians are by far, a team WHO could serve as a set up team, knowing how many experienced starters are in their spring training trying to rebound from a bad season,,,teams in need for starters could and may get benefit!!!

March 7, 2013  06:54 PM ET

It bothered me the last two years with the Indians not having a lefty in the rotation. Hopefully he gets in there.

This guy was really good a few years back. And, he's not even 30 yet.
