Yanks have no glove for Hafner: 'He's a field goal kicker'

Good decision not using him at 1b. Boy it's going to be a rough year. Even our GM is hurt.

and NY has some idiotic pipe dream that he is Jeters heir-apparent at short

Honestly speaking- there is no reason the guy can play 1b
all he has to do is catch the ball
no one bunts anymore
we have far too many old, injured guys for him to be clogging up a roster spot at DH

There are no sure-fire candidates but the good news is that Teixeria was only hitting .220 in mid May last year so it may not be so hard to replace.

Sorry, first base ain't exactly that simple. Remember Jason Giambi? Case closed.
A first basemen does not only save teammates from throwing errors but he can literally save games if he can actually field his position. That is why people like Tino Martinez, Keith Hernandez, Don MaAttingly, and, yes, Texeira were/are invaluable components to their teams.
Watching Hernandez field a bunt and throw a guy out at second or third was truly a joy to watch.

Hafner will hit well for NY. It always seems like the Yanks can acquire talented ball players that are finished in other places but become revived in the Bronx.

I find it more depressing that Hafner is even the LH DH. Personally, I would rather see Ronnier Mustelier be the everyday DH. That guy is "hitterish."

Correct. A firstbaseman that can dig throws out is very valuable.

but can they execute a hit run, a sac bunt? there is mor to batting than just swinging a baseball bat.
And, can they run the bases (Remember what happened to Wang in his 2008 season ??? he injured his foot running the bases during interleague play)?

Didn't realized NY had picked him up. Used to love me some Pronk but he is a mere shell of his former self.
