08:16 AM ET 03.07 | After a true freshman season during which he ran at 235 pounds, Nebraska's Imani Cross set a goal to get smaller. The ever-ambitious I-back had learned that to become a potential every-down contributor in the Huskers' fast-paced, no-huddle offense, he couldn't weigh 235 pounds, chiseled or not. ... He's down to 221 pounds. His daily calorie count has gone from 4,500 to 3,500. He used to write down every dish in every meal, but monitoring his nutritional intake has become routine now. ... He's sharing snaps this spring with rising junior Ameer Abdullah, whose confidence has skyrocketed since a 1,000-yard campaign in 2012. The competition heats up in the summer when touted recruits Adam Taylor and Terrell Newby enroll.

Interesting how colleges are now paying closer attention to the training table. COC was at the forefront of resistance weight training some 40 years ago; now it's nutrition and caloric intake.

Great comment Harley.

Nebraska teams of the late 1990's were dominant. They had the recipe for success.

Today's best teams have huge support staffs of evaluators, quality control people, film evaluators, S&C specialists, dieticians, etc ... today's players are getting professional treatment in almost everything they do. Imagine how good those Nebraska teams would have been under today's practices.
