Kekalainen dismisses 'silly' trade report

08:21 AM ET 03.07 | It didn't take long for speculation to grow from new Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen's watching the Penguins and Lightning on Monday. The Penguins are looking for backline help. Defenseman Simon Despres, 21, a former first-round pick, is said to be available in trade and might be enough bait to get Jack Johnson. ... Kekalainen was asked about the rumor last night before the Jackets defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in a shootout at Nationwide Arena. He was clear that he is not keen on commenting about trade rumors. He also was clear that this particular rumor was baseless. "It's silly," he said. "I went to watch a game. Ray Shero (the Penguins' general manager) is a friend of mine."

With the Bluejackets being my 2nd favorite team I offer the following rebuild of all rebuild plans. They need to prioritize and start building from the core players that they have right now, JJ being one of them. Then they have players signed to contracts that shouldn???t be (Wisniewski and Umberger).
They should keep:
- Johnson
- Johansen
- Dubinsky
- Brassard
- Anisimov
- Goloubef
Right now, they should be in a selling mode and trying to get prospects and draft picks back.
- Umberger for a prospect and late round draft pick (3rd)
- Wisniewski for a 3rd round draft pick
- Prospal for a 3rd round draft pick
- Aucoin for an AHL player
- Mason for a 3rd round draft pick
Then try to make a big splash during UFA.

All of you are wrong. He was talking to Shero to see if he could find the best place in Pittsburgh to get lutefisk. They have the best stuff in the 'Burgh you know. People come from all over Scandanavia to attend the Lutefiske Festival.

Not sure of their contract status, but no team is going to give up 3rd rounders for Wisniewski and Umberger.....
....well maybe Toronto.
The second CBJ signed Wisniewski, I knew they would regret that bloated contract. Umberger was the product of a system that fit his style in Philly.
And not to bash Columbus, but it really doesn't seem like a number one choice for UFA's, all things $$ being equal.

I kind of like the team Scott Howson put together. They have grit and are starting to play decent hockey. They need to add a couple of pieces.
BTW. Who is this Kakalinen? Where did he come from? And, what are his credentials?
