01:18 PM ET 03.07 | The Oakland Raiders and Rolando McClain have been headed on a collision course with the inevitable outcome of McClain's departure from the team that drafted him. But ever since his blow up in practice all of the way back in November, people have been asking why McClain was still on the team. After his fight with Dennis Allen in practice, the Raiders suspended McClain for two games, then did not let him play in any games after his return from the suspension. Now, over three months later, it appears as though the Raiders are finally going to cut Rolando McClain. According to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Raiders will cut McClain after March 12 because at that point, they can spread out the dead money that will be created by his release over two years, easing the impact on the cap. This should be a big relief for Raiders fans who have been frustrated by the former first round draft pick. McClain has had multiple run ins with the law since joining the Raiders, but it isn't his off of the field issues that drove fans crazy, it was his play on the field.

As an Alabama fan, deeply disappointed in him. He could be a very good player if he put his mind to it. He has all the physical talent needed.

Just another in a long string of Raider 1st round busts. Since the year 2000 the Raiders have had 11 first round draft choices, they have not had a 1st round selection for the last 2 years, only 5 of those 1st round selections are still on the team and soon there will be 4 with the release of Rolondo McCain (2010). The remaining players on the Oakland roster taken in the 1st round are; Sebastian Janikowski (2000), Michael Huff (2006), Darren McFadden(2008), Darius Heywood-Bey(2009). Nnambi Asomugha who was drafted in (2003) is still in the NFL but on another team.
If the Raiders traded down their #3 overall pick to the 49ers they would in return get the 49ers #31 pick plus a mid and late round selection, the last time the Raiders picked a player at #31 it was Nnambi Asomugha, maybe they can get lucky again at that spot again.

I remember when he came out - he was the Bomb...
Alot of talk in New York thinking he'd fall to 15 and the Giants - but they did alright with JPP.
I'd blame the Raiders...
They have a knack for taking very good college players and just letting them become degenerates (see Robert Gallery #2 pick 2004)

Glad he didn't fall to the Giants. This guy has a whole lot of maturing to do.

It just can't be a coincidence that so many good college players are drafted by the Raider and end up being major disappointments. The Raider culture is not conducive to good performance. "Just win Baby" really means don't sweat the small stuff like training, eating right, practice, study, etc. Just show up and let 'em have it. Pretty much losers for the past decade.

This guy blossomed under Saban. Not a spec of trouble from him the whole time he was at Alabama. With the history of this type of crap out of Oakland and the Al Davis mentality, this shouldn't surprise anyone. Ask Mike Shanahan about the Al Davis way of doing business.
Rolando has a huge upside and future...he just needs to be with the right people around him. Keep in mind he's still just a kid. What were you doing at that age? Now give yourself a few million dollars in your pocket. Its not hard to see why these kids have trouble. He will mature and get past this. He just needs some help.
