07:55 AM ET 03.08 | Giants coach Tom Coughlin took the occasion of a television appearance to discuss both his book and plenty of topics relating to the Giants. On one point, Coughlin was unequivocal. "We want Victor Cruz to be a Giant, want him to be a Giant forever," Coughlin told Erik Kuselias. "We have to have some patience here, everybody has to understand the circumstance. Victor is a restricted free agent, so there may be further negotiations to get to the point that both sides want to get to. We have to show some patience but we all want him to be here and I think he wants to be here. It's a great story, he's a great young man." ... Coughlin said that the team has no frustration at this point.

Cruz and Manning make a good pair. It's only smart to try to keep them together. Same with Nicks. Everyone knows the Giants don't overspend or buckle under to players, but they also need to recognize value when they have it.

RFA is not UFA and there is the rub. Cruz and his agent have to understand the Giants are not going to treat him like he is UFA now. And they will not put themselves in a future cap bind for him. Reese is a very patient GM.

They best pony up for him then...Cruz is worth a Top 5 contract at his position

He was outstanding two years ago, average last year. Not so sure he's really a top 5 at that position until he proves it over time.

That is absolutely true. He disappeared in some big games last year, and if people remember, the Pats shut him down completely in that superbowl.
It appears any physical corner/dB can throw him off his game.

That's why they are one of the best run organizations in the NFL..they hired good front office people, ownership doesn't interfere and they respect hard working players.
