07:57 AM ET 03.08 | The clock is ticking. Negotiations between the Steelers and the agent for James Harrison continue, but neither side has found anything to their liking on a new deal, increasing the chances that the star outside linebacker could be released soon. ... [Harrison] has two years left on a contract that is scheduled to pay him a $6.57 million salary this season. Bill Parise, Harrison's agent and a Beaver County resident, declined comment other than to say, "We absolutely want to do this, we absolutely want to be in Pittsburgh." The Steelers want him to take a pay cut, a source familiar with the negotiations said, but the sides cannot agree on just how that would work in a new deal. Harrison also has a salary for 2014 at $7,575,000.

Be careful, he may use the crown of his helmet on Mike Tomlin on his way out.

Unlike past Steelers teams, there is no one waiting in the wings to be a pro bowler. Harrison has a little bit of leverage but not much more than 3Million per.

I wouldn't take a pay cut.

Cap Casualty or Old Age or Both!!!!

He's got no choice. If he plays in Pittsburgh or any other town you can't give a 35 year old coming off a knee injury that much money. Maybe someone like the Pats take a run at him with a heavily incentive laden contract but no way he gets 6M.

He did start to play better as the season word on, this is more of a cap casualty.

Still has some gas in the tank, but realistically, needs to adjust adjust his salary, maybe make up for it by having a clause for the team to pay Goodell's fines levied on him...

Shawne Merriman blow back: Harrison knows Merriman got $5 million guaranteed last year from the bills and then he retires before being cut. Harrison figures he is worth that much then to some team that just does not get it.

Done.

In the Steeler linebacker maniac tradition, Harrison was BLACK N' GOLD all the way through.

Thanks for the memories James - especially that monster INT against Arizona that changed the game and gave us our last ring.

He would just be a stop gap player.

He will be 35 this May. He is looking, at best, for a one year deal. There comes a time....

True..unless they think Worilds will be a player but I'm not so sure they do. Harrison seems to be a victim of age v. salary

Yeah, Harrison could mentor Terrelle Pryor.
