08:12 AM ET 03.08 | South Carolina All-American defensive end Jadeveon Clowney said after Thursday's practice session that he has obtained a $5 million insurance policy through the NCAA. The NCAA started its insurance program in 1990 and provides up to $5 million in coverage. The policies are now standard for high-profile college players like Clowney who either are not yet eligible for the NFL draft, or decide to return for their senior seasons. Clowney, a junior, is considered a potential Heisman Trophy finalist in 2013 and is the presumptive No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL draft. ... Clowney getting insurance should surprise nobody. But he did say before USC's bowl game that he didn't plan to get it.

He's a very good player and that play against Michigan was a good play, but he was unblocked and the guy was right there. He'd have had to do an Eddie Lacy spin move not to have been in position to lay that guy out.

We'll see him in college 1 more year which will be fun, and then we won't see him much for 1-2 years while he's developing the strength and technique needed to avoid getting pushed around by NFL linemen.

If he doesn't develop more body strength, he'll probably be able to run around bad tackles with his speed, but if he gets up against a good tackle who is 300 and nimble, he'll have very long days against that guy.

I heard the take on JC was that he takes a lot of plays off. I only saw a couple of his games, true?

Danielson and Lundquist will be hyping him for the Heisman. He's already getting plenty of attention from ESPN, he's already being touted as the consensus #1 pick in the draft, and the guys at FanSided have been stricken with an huge Clowney man-crush.
He'll have cameras following him around all season before and after games. It won't matter to the fans if he takes plays off, but the NFL scouts only care about his game film.

He is ready for the NFL now. He should be permitted to get paid for his craft not counting what he gets paid at this SEC school
