08:14 AM ET 03.08 | So much for a Gunner Kiel era at Notre Dame (or Indiana or LSU, for that matter). [Kiel] met with the Notre Dame coaching staff [Thursday] to ask for his release and will be making his exit from Notre Dame just over one year after arriving on campus. After spending last season as a scout team quarterback the former five-star prospect from Columbus, Ind., plans to transfer. ... Kiel spent last season as part of a position group that included starter Everett Golson, a sophomore, veteran backup Tommy Rees and Andrew Hendrix. Freshman Malik Zaire also enrolled for the second semester and will take part in spring practice. Possible landing spots could include Ball State, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois and Cincinnati.

Good Lord. This kid has destroyed one of the most promising careers ever. Les Miles was right.
No way he goes to Alabama. He couldn't handle it...and Saban wouldn't touch him.
If he transfers to another Div 1 school...he not only has to sit out a year...but he loses that year's eligibility, right? He couldn't "red shirt" it so to speak.
