07:51 PM ET 03.08 | NFL free agency doesn't unofficially start until midnight tonight, but once the clock strikes 12, many phones around the country will begin to ring. One of those phones belongs to Dashon Goldson and the team on the other line will be the Philadelphia Eagles. According to Jordan Raanan and multiple league sources, the Eagles are going to pursue Dashon Goldson in an effort to re-energize their defense. Interestingly enough, the last remnant of the Eagles' last splurge on defensive players could end up accounting for a majority of Goldson's salary in Philly. Nnamdi Asomugha is set to be released by the Eagles if he can't come to terms with lowering his salary and his release would get the Eagles to roughly $40 million in terms of money they can play with. To further that little connection, Goldson's agent Ben Dogra also represents Asomugha.

Big deal. So will 6-12 other teams I'm sure. He'll be a hot name this offseason.

So?

Sounds like Dogra has a fetish for making sure his clients make more money than they are worth.

As a 49er fan I'm not going to bad mouth Goldson. Because there is always the possibility that he may end up on the 49ers. But if he comes back to the 49ers he should only expect to get a 5 year $25 million dollar contract.

This seems pretty logical to me.

Philly desperately needs someone, anyone in their defensively backfield who can tackle and Goldson fits the bill.

Not sold on his coverage skills but he can definitely tackle better than any DB currently on Philly's roster. Easy to see why the Eagles would be interested.

Not so easy to see why Goldson might want to leave San Fran for Philly, though, unless there's a big difference in the contracts being offered.
