08:46 AM ET 03.09 | Osi Umenyiora is almost certainly going to play somewhere else next season, but he promises that whichever team signs him will be signing the Defensive Player of the Year. That's what he guaranteed Friday night during an appearance on NFL Network's Total Access show. Asked what teams he'd be willing to sign with when the free-agent market opens on Tuesday, the 31-year-old said, "It would be anybody that I think would need me to help them win and anyone who is going to put me in a situation to win Defensive Player of the Year -- which is what I am going to do this year." That's quite a boast for Umenyiora, who had just six sacks last season. Back in 2011, though, Umenyiora had 12 1/2 sacks in 13 games for the Giants, including the playoffs. Even the year before, in 2010, he hit double digits with 11 1/2. However, Umenyiora -- who after years of contract squabbles with the Giants said he wants "to go see what is out there" on the market -- scoffed at the notion he's become a "situational pass rusher" over the last few years.

Well, if they ignore his disinterest in run defense, then I suppose it is possible. I would put the odds at 150 to 1.

I really liked this guy in the beginning and hope he does well with ever who signs him. I appreciate him helping the Giants to two SB wins but it's time for him to move on.

why do I get the strange feeling that rex hears this bravado and urges Jet management that he's the key ingrediant to bring the Jets back from the grave

LOOK UP THE MEANING OF THE WORD GUARANTEE BEFORE YOU USE IT SO FREELY. What happens if you don't live up to your promise Osi, are you going to return 3/4 of the money you earned ? How about some team pays you $10,000.00 per game and the rest will be thrown in if you win MVP? And what happens if half way through the season you realize you have no shot at winning MVP, are you going to refuse to play, or put up half the effort?
Lots of companies guarantee a product, then they go out of business, the product breaks down and they are no where to be found.

Once you get him off the Stationary Bike and out on the Field with the Temperature at 60 degress, he might make a tackle other wise he hides out at a decoy these days, He was once outstanding but since he feels he underpaid he's been under performing! That's Sad but True!
