10:04 AM ET 03.10 | Don't look for Nolan Ryan to take a role with the Astros if he leaves the Rangers. He would not fit what the franchise has been doing since Jim Crane bought the team from Drayton McLane.
He's a figurehead, brought in by new ownership to give a face to the franchise. And now it seems he wants a little more say in roster moves. Josh Daniels and other front office personal should get the credit for building that team, not Nolan. He is of very little value to other teams.

I disagree. When the Rangers need a figurehead of stability and respect, Nolan Ryan provided it.
Sure, he may not have been the brains behind the operation, but to me, he's the heart.

Nolan Ryan just happened to arrive at the right time. After Josh Daniels did all the work.
Ah yes, what has the Crane ownership team been doing since the acquisition? Slashing payroll to $20 million, and... ? I know where are prospects in the pipeline and you can't right the ship overnight, but Jim Crane had better not been the next Jeffrey Loria. Looks like another season of 100+ losses, but this had better be the last one for a while.
If you are going to be bad, you'd might as well be really bad and cheap. But how cheap? True story, 2 weekends ago the Astros hosted the Astros Foundation College Classic with local college teams including Rice, Texas A&M, Houston and North Carolina - here at Minute Maid Park. Ushers asked fans to return foul balls, as not enough cases of balls were purchased to allow fans to keep balls hit into the stands as souvenirs. Wow! So it has come to this, pinching pennies to skimp on buying baseballs.

And that is why he is there, for you. No really, and others to place their hearts. I think that is the difinition of figurehead.

his name is Jon Daniels, not JOSH...before everybody talks about how much work he has done, say his name correctly at least!
