01:46 PM ET 03.10 | Though Tristan Thompson's numbers aren't eye-popping, they're impressive for the second-year pro. And although the Cleveland Cavaliers aren't a surprise team in the NBA at 21-41, their 21-year-old power forward has grabbed opportunity by the horns this season. Seeing an increase of nearly eight minutes per game this year, in part because of an injury to veteran forward Anderson Varejao, Thompson is putting up 11.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this season. Cavs coach Byron Scott doesn't care about the team's record or otherwise. Thompson, he said, is one of the most improved players in the league. "He should be in the conversation," Scott told The Morning Journal. "He's made big-time strides."

I've never understood this Most Improved Player award. All one needs to do to achieve it is suck the previous year.
