09:27 PM ET 03.10 | One of the more interesting storylines of this offseason is the future of tight end Tony Gonzalez. After coming within a game of the Super Bowl for the first time in his NFL career, many began to speculate that Gonzalez would hang up the cleats and retire but everyone may have gotten a bit ahead of themselves in penciling in Gonzalez for retirement. You can't really blame anyone for preparing themselves for a Gonzo-less world, as it was Tony Gonzalez himself who said he was "97 percent" retired earlier this year. But he's changing his tune, and according to USA Today, Gonzalez is expected to inform the Atlanta Falcons that he's returning for one more season and will play for them in 2013. This is where the story gets a little too TMZ for my taste, as USA Today cites a "person close to Gonzalez" as their source. That's not to say this information is wrong, but word that he'll officially be returning has yet to come out of Gonzalez's mouth.

You miss spelled Dough. Gonzo will be back not just because of the duh, but because he can still play well and the team was close to a trip to the SB.

im hearing 7 mil for the season...hard to turn down. going by last season, he knows he can still do it, just figuring out if he still wants to. that underneath safety valve that he creates for Ryan is an important part of their offense.

Matt Ryan = Tony Romo.

Yup...Ryan, Schaub and Romo are all in the same boat.

Flacco was there too but got hot at the right time and got a ring and a bigger paycheck as a result...

Sad part is, the Ravens still have Flacco but at about $5m more per season than he is worth in NFL money.

Tony is still playing good football.

No matter how much money you save, $7m is hard to leave behind.

I would keep playing too...

Isn't that what it is all about? Getting hot at the right time. Problem is, Ryan, Romo, and Schuab never "got hot" and say all you can about Flacco's salary, he earned it. He has the hardware to back up his paycheck. What about the three stooges? Overpaid and overrated.
