08:04 AM ET 03.11 | The Cowboys' front office won't be easing into work early this week, not by a longshot. [Dallas] has nearly $7 million it must carve off its payroll before the salary cap for the 2013 season takes effect Tuesday afternoon. The Cowboys had dipped under the figure, but its decision to place the franchise tag on Anthony Spencer means more financial maneuvering must take place. Nose tackle Jay Ratliff, cornerback Orlando Scandrick, linebacker Dan Connor, backup quarterback Kyle Orton and guards Nate Livings and Mackenzy Bernadeau have all been approached about re-working their deals. ... The Cowboys can create significant room by signing quarterback Tony Romo to an extension and lowering his $16.8 million cap hit.

Shouldn't be too hard. They've been shaving millions off their fans for years.

Does the front office payroll get included in this? Including JJ's salary?
Pretend you're the govt and put in x% decrease across the board to everyone's salary... :)

The cowboys should just suck it up for a year. It was playing around with contracts that got them in this spot, which is normal if you have guys you really want to keep, but they did it to keep together 8-8 teams. Year after year. They can make this short term problem a long term situation.

Nah, they are in this spot because of some recent cuts with other players + the cap penalty issued by the NFL.
Jerry likes pricey free agents, so Dallas will always be up against the cap year after year.
IF they can hit on young talent vs veterans being signed, it gets easier.
I think you will see that this offseason...meaning less "splashes" and more solid under-the-radar moves.

I hope so.
During the Garrett regime, we have seen good picks like Tyron Smith, Dez Bryant, Mo Claiborne, Sean Lee, Bruce Carter, and Demarco Murray all become solid.
We have unknown "potential" in Dwayne Harris, Cole Beasley, Barry Church, Matt Johnson and Tryonne Coleman...
This gives one hope it can still happen.
Just pray he (Jerry) avoids the Joey Galloway/Roy Williams deals...

There are well run organizations making cuts right now to get under...the Steelers being one...
The Redskins hired a good GM years ago and are still in cap hell.
Jerry gets more attention because of the personality he is and team he owns.
