08:04 AM ET 03.11 | Young at 25 and accomplished with two 1,000-yard rushing seasons to his credit, Rashard Mendendall is likely to become a coveted free agent Tuesday. [Mendendall] has drawn interest from the Broncos. The level of the Broncos' interest in Mendenhall is difficult to gauge. They have a menu of 12 to 15 free agent players who they believe could fit their roster under the right circumstances and for the right price. While contacting agents of these free-agent players, the Broncos to date have said little more than they have some interest and they'll back to them later. Free-agent discussions figure to intensify Monday with the market officially opening at 2 p.m. MDT Tuesday.

"2, 1000 rushing seasons..."

But how long ago was that ?

I wonder if he's related to Mendenhall?

No, apparently Mendendall is quite an accomplished running back.

You know, this 1,000 yard running back standard started when a NFL season was 12 games. It meant something then, but really, with a 16 game season should not the new standard for running backs be 1,250 yards a season?

Is averaging 62.5 yards a game against defenses designed to stop the pass really a milestone?

You've got a very good point. It's a nice round number, and we're used to it, but it really doesn't really indicate excellence any more.

that's what I was thinking...I got him confused with Mendenhall, who can have a bad attitude, is fumble prone, injury prone, and likes Osama Bin Laden....

The names do sound alike.

Still, might be good for Denver. It's not like he has to be the focal point of the offense.

I've been singing that song for years, and I'm amazed at how rarely I've seen it mentioned out there on the tubes. Keeping the bar set at 1,000 inflates the reputations of a lot of good (but not great) backs and sells some jerseys.

Exactly! Which is why I personally have been using 1,300 yards as the benchmark for the past 5 seasons...I wonder what we need to do to get the football world to see it our way? LOL

He would Definitely have a Home Field advantage, not as dumb as it sounds!

No and frankly I think your 1,250 number is way too low as well.

Elite backs go for 1,600-1,800 yards or more when on a decent team.
