Happ 'very' frustrated by role

08:13 AM ET 03.11 | An encouraging start to the season hasn't much eased the fact that J.A. Happ doesn't have a real shot at the rotation. There's still an opportunity to compete for a job in the bullpen, but even that is somewhat up for debate. A more likely scenario would see Happ begin the year at Triple-A Buffalo and wait for an opportunity at the big league level. Both options have him less than enthused. "It's very frustrating," Happ said after throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings against the Yankees on Sunday afternoon in a 3-0 loss. "I told myself a couple of things before I came into camp: that I would try to stay as positive as I could and just kind of let things play out. So, I'm trying to do that."

And someone will.

Johnson or Morrow will get hurt or Romero will crap the bed.

Either way, he'll get his time. I guess i'd be pretty po'ed if I had to play in Buffalo for a while too, though.

It's not who you know, it's who you have pictures of. He obviously doesn't have any yet.

He's a great insurance policy for Toronto but I'm sure he doesn't like being a "6th starter" in the minors. My guess is that, if the Jays rotation looks healthy, he'll be traded by late May.

either he does pitch in toronto or get traded to the halos,,as everybody knows angels rotation is one of the worse wrecked rotation!!!

This guy looked great his rookie year. It's been downhill ever since. I'm sure he's frustrated, but that ERA+ well below 100 for the last two years is not going to keep him on a big league roster.

Johnson will be injured by June. Romero may blow out his arm. Morrow always seems to be hurt.

Stick around, Happ.

Until Romero can prove that he can stop walking a guy an inning and keep his whip under 2, Happ won't be going to far. I know it's spring training, but he's still walking guys. Seen many young starters that show star potential only to have their careers derailed by accuracy. That and Romero came into spring complaining about knee tendenitis. I think J.A. will be a big time contributer for this team. Not a dominant ace by any means, but a playoff experienced vet who slides nicely into the 5th spot of the rotation.

Alacran, the 'worse' wrecked rotation? C'mon. Happ would be a nice backup, but stop the halo hating.
