Positive spin on Ryan takes negative turn

08:15 AM ET 03.11 | The unfolding soap opera that has become Nolan Ryan's tenure in Texas encountered another few twists over the weekend. Ryan appears more likely to leave the Rangers than stay, but that's again based on speculation and nothing anyone in the media has heard directly from him. And due to personal commitments made months ago for Ryan representing the Rangers for an end-of-March exhibition game in San Antonio and then the regular-season opener in Houston, well, that calendar time remains the most likely departure date, if he does leave. The Rangers put out a statement from Nolan on Sunday in Surprise, but it broke no new ground. ... Right now, Nolan is gone at some point soon. But that's right now. Things can still change.

The Rangers might soon find themselves to be the second best team in Texas.

He's gonna be the scapegoat for their failure to win the WS when they had the chance...said this last year their window of opportunity was closing fast and now it may be closed.....

Agreed. The Angels have probably jumped over them.

The Rangers are idiots if they let the icon go.

He was getting more face time during games than the team on the field. That plays in to it.

Which would be ironic - because I feel he may have been one of the reasons for them even getting to the WS. Just an opine - but he can be demanding and that can actually "Feed" an organization....

strikes me that there's a positive correlation between ryan joining the team and the team becoming successful. not that anyone should pay attention to that.

I hate to say it, but the last time they were good before, Dubya ran the team. Not a fan of their politics, but those are good baseball people.

In Game 3 of the playoffs against The Braves in 1969, Nolan Ryan was brought in by Gil Hodges, in the third inning and Nobody out, he struck out Hank Aaron, Ralph Garr and Orlano Cepeda, that moment in Baseball will forever be known as The Birth of Their Championship at that point in time most Met fans didn't care about The Orioles who were about to clean their clock out, they knew (Met Fans) Seaver and Kooz then bring on the booze!! Having Nolan in the Bull Pen was sweet!

Ryan was young and very green at that point....batters were afraid to get in the box against him because he could throw 100mph and was unpredictably wild.....for all the strikeouts he has ....a lot of people don't realize he also has the record most walks.....

Their timing on this is horrible. I don't see the Rangers positioned nearly as well as they've been in the last few years. Someone other than Ryan will be taking the blame this year if they don't even make the playoffs. You'd better be positioned to do well when you're forcing out an icon.

You dream big I'll say that. It's going to take the Astros at least five years to get where the Rangers are at!

I see him as a figurehead, nothing more. I thinks he wants more. His statements wanting pitchers to go deeper in games was a great line and fans loved it, but tht is not what actually occured. That is but a shallow example. I think he wanted more actual control, that he didn't and wasn't going to get.
He is/was a great figurehead.

The walks helped his Ks, he was never asked to change. The ball is coming at 100. it might be right over the plate or in your ear...go get em...
