02:33 PM ET 03.11 | In an effort to free up some salary cap space, the Dallas Cowboys released linebacker Dan Connor on Monday. Before cutting Connor, the Cowboys were $7 million over the cap for 2013, and the move will save the team $4.3 million next season. A five-year veteran out of Penn State, Connor's first season with Dallas came in 2012. He compiled 57 tackles, three tackles for loss and one pass defended. Connor spent the first four years of his career with the Carolina Panthers, who selected him in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

He got his signing bonus last year, got his $2.7 million of the guaranteed part of his fa contract and now the can is in the road and had to go. It is the way of free agency, by the third year they are gone. The way of NFL contracts.

Well if they cut Connor why the heck are they letting Victor Butler leave?

Who's gonna play LB besides Sean Lee? There's nobody left.

Hopefully Dallas can some draft picks to find LB's because that area is quickly becoming one of their biggest weaknesses, right along with the offensive line.

I guess Bruce Carter is still around, so maybe Dallas has two guys they can use at LB, but still... teh defensive front is gonna be pretty nasty with Ware, Ratliff, Spencer and whoever else they use to plug the other DT spot. (plenty of toptions there, although none of them are particularly appealing, although Jason Hatcher has had his moments of brilliance)

But the LB corps... man, it could've been something special. I thought a front seven of Ware, Spencer, Ratliff, Hatcher, Lee, Carter and Butler would be pretty good.

But now I'm thinking we're gonna see Ernie Sims again, or some other retread who will be an obvious weak point for opposing offenses to attack. Not good.

And considering Sensabaugh got cut, the defensive backfield is left with what, Claiborne, Scandrick, Carr, and Bary Church?

Reallly? Church? I know Dallas' management is high on him, but the defensive backfield is ALWAYS a disappointment for Dallas.

Defense could've been a strength but those penalties Goodell levied on Dallas are taking away their depth and leaving the Boys with few options.

Hopefully all the pieces fall into place in the draft, because it's looking like Dallas is gonna have to hit draft-gold just in order to field a team of actual NFL-caliber starters.

In hindsight, Dallas probably should've released Miles Austin and kept some of their defensive players. Austin's always gimpy, anyway.

I was waiting on when they were going to get to him?
