02:48 PM ET 03.11 | The Cleveland Browns are in need of help on the defensive line, and in an effort to fill that need, the team is pursuing Ricky Jean-Francois and Jason Jones. The Browns are switching to a 3-4 defensive scheme, and Jean-Fancois would likely fit in nicely at end. In four seasons, primarily as a backup, with the San Francisco 49ers, he has 49 tackles and three sacks. Jones, who has 122 tackles, 18.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss in five years with the Titans and Seahawks, is another option at end for Cleveland. The Browns' defensive line ranked in the middle of the NFL pack last season, ranking 11th in sacks (38) and 13th in yards per carry allowed (4.2).

The Browns want everyone. One report has them going after backup QB Ryan Mallet of the Patriots.

Look, I'm a lifelong Browns fan and quite frankly I think I know much more about this team than most national sportswriters. Linemen should be last on the Browns list of defensive priorities for a couple reasons, they're switching to the 3-4 and they already have guys who can play that position (Taylor, Rubin, Hughes, Winn, etc.). Linebacker and cornerback are much, much bigger needs.

There's no telling what happens now that they have little Lombardi making the calls.
I've been waiting for a decent Browns team for more than a decade. I wanted the AFC North to be the best division in the league. I'm just not too certain that I like it happening as the Steelers seem to slide.

Whenever I hear "Browns and Defensive Linemen", I think of the year the Broncos signed FOUR DLs from the Browns in one year. Ebenezer Ekuban, Michael Myers (former Cowboys), Courtney Brown and (the dirty player) Gerard Warren. Interesting and not real productive. Of these DLs, I remember Warren the most for his dirty and unnecessary hits on QBs after an interception. His hits were the cause for rule changes regarding hits on QBs after interceptions. Just a dirty player.
