Bobrovsky trade haunting Flyers

08:22 AM ET 03.12 | Of the big deals Paul Holmgren has swung in Philly over the past few years, perhaps the one most effecting this season is shipping backup goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to Columbus for three draft picks. [With] the strike-shortened season more than halfway over, Bobrovsky has emerged as the NHL's hottest goaltender. ... This season, Bryzgalov has started 25 of 27 games, including the last 11. He has looked fatigued lately. Flyers coach Peter Laviolette says Bryzgalov, who signed a nine-year, $51 million deal before last season, thrives when he gets lots of work. But if the Flyers had a more dependable backup -- such as Bobrovsky -- one wonders if Bryzgalov would have been used less frequently and looked fresher in games.

As it stands anybody not named Boucher or Leighton would do as a back up

I didn't understand the Bob move them, and I understand it even less now. The Flyers had no reason to velieve that Bryz could carry the load. I understand that they didn't feel that they had a potential number 1 in Bob...but he's still better than whatever else they've managed to piece together. They need to draft a goalie with actual potential and try to develop him. BUT...it's the Flyers, so they won't.

Nail on the head POTF I didn't understand it either especially with how good Bob played his first season

The way I see it: Paul Holmgren did the kid a huge favor. Bobrovsky would've died a slow painful death in Philly ... like all potential goalies do. He has a life and a future now ... even if it is in Columbus. Philly has draft picks.

Sergei thanks you.

Holmgren GM of the year. General Muckup

He looked fatigued? Didn't he also say he was fatigued? Yet, he thrives on more work.

Philly: where goalies go to die.

Phantom I might have endured a St. Michael avatar prematurely. Didn't the Flyers recall Leighton?

Pelle Lindbergh's ghosts continue to haunt Flyers' goalies. Holmgren needs to hire the Ghostbusters.

Philly has to start playing some D....cant leave the goalie high and dry all the time and expect him to be Hasek....they're deep at forward..trade some pieces for actual D-Men...fast ones.

this is true, but at the same time nobody's asking Philly's goalie to win 2-1 nail biters every night. Consistent and steady goaltending would be enough to make them legit. Ethos should be 'Keep Calm, and don't let in any stinkers'.

Actually funny you touch on this. Last night on my drive home i couldnt take anymore Flyer talk radio and picked up the celly and decided to call in to WIP 94.1. As I was on hold, the host Rob Ellis asked the audience the one contract they would love to have back in the last 5 yrs. in Philly sports. A couple of people called in about the dude with the bad knees on the sixers and myself and only one other called in and said by far "the bryz contract". Some drunk also called in and said "trade Couterier" for Bobby Ryan. My points for flyer nation were this:

1) Time for Holmgren to go( not Lavi): You got nothing in the farm system and nothing available and sexy to trade
2) JVR-- Flyers gave up way too fast. One good year, gave him a big contract, traded everyone away; and then put the weight of the world on him.
3) Schenn: Good stay at home guy, physical; put he cant carry the puck or QB anything. He needs a Markov type to play with--which you dont have
4) Plan B: You rolled out the big contract for a big name defensemen and never got it. What was Holmgrens plan B?
5) Carle: You say TB way overpaid; ok granted they did. But you never got the FA you wanted and you let this guy walk; so why not throw some money at him and see if he accepts and stays.
6) Bryz: Bryz will never ever be Rask, Price, Henrik, Brodeur, Roy, Quick...heck he cant make a clutch save when needed so stop making excuses about the D. I know the D is porous; but he cant make a money save during crunch time.
7) Dont trade anyone; unless its Briere or Hartnall. You need kids and quickly need to find a franchise player. If it starts to snowball Homer is going to panic. Dont let him. Send Hartnall packing; he's never going to outpace what he did last year; Claude made him look the best he ever has---it cant get much better.
