Rose still has no return date

04:59 PM ET 03.12 | Derrick Rose told the Chicago Tribune that there's no return date set as he reaches his 10-month anniversary of the surgery on his torn ACL. But if there's any bit of good news, it's that Rose cleared the air about why he's not setting a date himself and what to make of the rumors that the Chicago Bulls are putting pressure on him to return this season. In short, those reports are crazy, he said. The one-time MVP said that he's simply waiting until he's mentally playing basketball like his old self, and whether that comes in a few days or next season isn't something he'll be guessing about. "I'm just taking my time. I haven't taken any steps back," Rose told the Tribune. "I'm getting stronger every day. I did every workout possible. The workouts are getting a lot easier. I'm moving in the right direction. When I'm out there not thinking and just reacting, that's how I know I'll be ready."

Getting out there and playing will help you get mentally ready. Just play some backup minutes.

Rose needs to shut it down, and just prepare for next season. That's what training camp and preseason games are for. Don't become the next RG3.

You guys have all torn your ACL or had to come back from a major injury? Also putting 10-100 million at risk?
You guys don't know jack. :)
Yes I would love to see him play, but that's just me being a fan of his game. I think it's better for him to let this season go. Work out all summer, come back a beast when the next season starts and play your heart out with no worries.

Yeah, if Rose needs the rest of the season, he should take it. The Bulls aren't going too far this year, with or without him. Why risk his career over a few games. Getting back next year is the better option.

Jgb - there goes the update from Ros?? that you were looking for!
It's not like he isn't playing basketball. In addition to doing drills, the guy is getting up and down the court playing in scrimmages. He will get to where he needs to be. I'm pretty sure that he and the Bulls coaches/trainers/management know a lot more than we do about how he should go about getting to where he needs to be.

You should dig/read deeper my friend :
Derrick Rose said Tuesday he is physically fine, his workouts are getting easier but he is trying to get over the mental ??????hump?????? before he returns to the Bulls??? lineup ??? and that might not happen this season. ??????I think with any surgery, mentally you have to get over that hump ??? that???s what I???m doing now,?????? Rose said prior to the Bulls??? practice at UCLA???s Student Activities Center. ??????I???m able to play but it???s just getting over that hump ??? I should be fine. ??????I think I can do everything [physically]. It???s just me having the confidence to do it. I???m just trying to feel normal. When I???m out there and not thinking and just reacting, that???s when I know I???ll be ready.??????
he is READY physically-
he is not ready mentally
I stand by the fact that IMO, he will not feel 100% until he is on the floor playing in real games

I totally agree. The longer he waits the harder it will be for him to get his head right.

My point is that he - and the entire Bulls organization - believe that he can get mentally ready doing the things that he is currently doing. They clearly think that the drills/training/scrimmaging he is doing is enough to get him there. In my opinion, they are the professionals at this so they probably know better what needs to happen than we do.

I hear you-
but just remember one thing.....
as THE franchise- the entire organization is taking their cues from him - he has said he isn't ready so no one is saying anything that may irk him....they are all basically yes men
no one wants to p!ss him off or say anything other than the chalk talk thats come out.
all this 'coddling' may actually not be whats best for him
* And I definately saw the doc say his knee was sound- so not everyone is on the same page

DRose is becoming the next Dwightmare. wtf does he mean by not "mentally ready"?? It's like some people saying I'm still not "comfortable" with a black president. wtf cares about all these hidden "feelings"?. Doctors cleared him, he's doing OK in drills, get the F out there and play!!! He's being paid a salary for doing so, it's not that hard.
Kobe plays hurt all the time (not comparing to a ACL tear at all, but making a point about pain tolerance and commitment). Heck even Howard is playing at 70% fitness.
If you wanna be a leader, you need to set an example of how badly you want to be on the court. Would have NEVER heard MJ or Kobe or LBJ NOT wanting to be on the court because you don't "feel" right.

He means that he wants to be able to play and do all the things he normally does on the court without thinking or worrying about his knee. I'm pretty sure that everyone - even Kobe and Jordan and LBJ - returning from an injury want to be in that place mentally when they begin playing again. I am not sure, however, how you have related this situation to our black president.

If its made up, he is the one who made it up. Nobody other than D Rose himself taled about doing just that after being bounced from the playoffs 2 seasons ago.
And for the record, I don't think he did that at all. I call BS. No way did he sit in his house for 2 weeks upset and eating delivery pizza after losing in the playoffs. That was a PR stunt to endear him with the fans. This is guy is confirming the fraudulent personality that I always suspected him of being.
